the moment

Meditating on my restless mind where we are bombarded with endless amounts of stimuli, I took a series of videos of myself naked sitting in a chair, attempting to be as still as possible. Using time-mapping, I overlayed hundreds of frames of myself sitting in the chair, tracking my movements and obscuring my body as it moved over time. This experimentation led to this work, The Moment, which is an installation focused on how we think about time and the progression of the body over the course of the day.

Each step of the process is a series of 200 frames overlapping each other, starting from the top and moving downward, with the chair I used for the video present as well. The installation takes the form of wallpaper to bring the work into an almost decorative and domestic context. The repeating pattern of how my time is spent and how my body exists in the world becomes part of the background noise of life. The form of wallpaper is a study in contrasts as it recedes into the background, merely a decorative element to a room while still occupying the space and expanding all the way to the ceiling. The chair invites the viewer to sit and contemplate how they use their own time.
